This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Throne Era Studio ("Throne Era", "we") collects when you use the Throne Era service, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have over it.
Plain summary. We collect your email and account info to give you access, and your play data to run the game. We use a third-party AI provider and a third-party payment provider; both have their own privacy practices. We do not sell your data. You can ask us to delete your account at any time.
1. Who we are
Throne Era Studio is the controller of personal data processed through the Throne Era service. You can reach us at privacy@throneera.com.
2. What we collect
2.1 Information you give us
- Account data: your display name and email address.
- Waitlist data: your name, email, selected tier, and any optional note you write when joining the waitlist.
- Payment data: if you subscribe, the payment provider collects card details. We receive only a tokenised reference and metadata such as billing country, last four digits of the card, and renewal status.
- Support data: any messages you send us.
2.2 Information generated by your use of the Service
- Reign data: the scenarios you play, the decisions you make, the resulting game-state, and the narrator output produced for you.
- Diagnostic data: anonymised performance and error logs (page load timing, JavaScript errors, narrator latency).
2.3 Information we receive from third parties
- Payment events: from our payment provider — successful charges, failures, refunds, and disputes.
- Email events: from our transactional email provider — delivery, opens (where the email client reports them), and bounces.
3. What we do not collect
- We do not collect your full credit-card number, CVV, or full bank account number.
- We do not collect government identifiers (e.g. tax ID, passport, social-security numbers) for individual players.
- We do not track you across other websites for advertising purposes.
- We do not run third-party advertising or marketing trackers in the Service.
4. Why we process your data (legal bases under GDPR)
- To provide the Service — account creation, game-state storage, narrator generation. Legal basis: performance of a contract with you.
- To process payments — billing, refunds, dispute handling. Legal basis: performance of a contract; legal obligation.
- To improve the Service — aggregated, de-identified analysis of which scenarios are most played, narrator quality. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
- To send essential service emails — receipts, security notices, policy updates. Legal basis: legitimate interest; legal obligation.
- To send optional product updates — only with your explicit opt-in. Legal basis: consent. You can withdraw at any time.
- To enforce our Terms & Acceptable Use Policy. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
5. AI narrator processing
To generate narrator passages, we send the following to a third-party large language model provider: (a) the current public game state for your reign, (b) the scenario template you are playing, and (c) the option you selected. We do not send your account name, email, payment information, or any other personal identifier. Outputs are returned to your browser and stored against your reign.
Our AI provider processes this data under its own privacy and security commitments. We have a data-processing agreement in place that prohibits the provider from using your data to train its public models.
6. Sharing your data
We share personal data only with a small number of trusted service providers, each acting as our processor:
- Cloud hosting provider — to operate the Service.
- Payment processor — to bill you and handle refunds.
- Transactional email provider — to send receipts and security notices.
- Large language model provider — to generate narrator output as described above.
- Customer support tooling — to respond to your messages.
We may also disclose data when required by law, in connection with a legal claim, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Throne Era, our users, or the public.
7. International transfers
Some of our service providers are located outside your country. Where personal data is transferred from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland to a country without an adequacy decision, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms.
8. How long we keep your data
- Account data: for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise it within 30 days, except for records we must retain for legal reasons.
- Reign data: for as long as your account is active. Deleted along with the account.
- Billing records: retained for up to 7 years to meet tax and accounting obligations.
- Diagnostic logs: 90 days.
- Waitlist entries: 18 months, after which they are deleted if you have not converted to an account.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the following rights over your personal data: access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, objection, and the right to withdraw consent for processing based on consent. You can exercise any of these rights by emailing privacy@throneera.com. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
10. Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Cookies & local storage
We use a small number of strictly-necessary cookies (session, CSRF) and local-storage entries (game state, last-read scenario). We do not use advertising, analytics, or social-media tracking cookies. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing optional to consent to.
12. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data: encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest for databases and backups, scoped access controls for personnel, and routine third-party security review. No system is perfectly secure; in the unlikely event of a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant authority as required by law.
13. Changes to this Policy
If we make material changes to this Policy, we will notify you by email or by an in-Service notice at least 14 days before the change takes effect.
